Chrome and Firefox put a star in the address bar. It fills in when the page is bookmarked, and one click adds or removes it. Safari on the Mac has no bookmark star. You can't tell whether the current page is already saved.
Patrick is a free Safari extension that adds a bookmark star for Safari, plus a Reading List button:
- a pink star for bookmarks
- a yellow book for the Reading List
The color and shape combination is intentional.
How the star works
- The star is filled when the current page is in your Safari bookmarks, including bookmarks you added through Safari itself.
- Click an empty star to bookmark the page.
- Click a filled star to change its folder or remove it.
Patrick writes to your real Safari bookmarks, so your bookmarks still sync through iCloud as usual.
Compared with other extensions
Other bookmark extensions on the App Store also show whether a page is bookmarked, but clicking their star doesn't add or remove anything. App Store apps are limited by the app sandbox and can't write to Safari's bookmarks, so they can only read them.
